Mike attended SMDEP at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in 2011. He went on to graduate with honors from Northwestern University in March 2013 with a B.S. in Psychology.

As an undergraduate, Mike served as the President of the Minority Association of Premedical Students chapter at Northwestern. During his tenure, he established a formal mentoring program for undergraduates in collaboration with the Student National Medical Association chapter at Feinberg School of Medicine. In addition, Mike was the co-founder of Northwestern Emergency Medicine Organization (NEMO), a group that is currently working with University administration in order to launch a student-run first response service on campus. During the summer of 2012, Mike received a fellowship from the International Program Development office to study public health in Havana, Cuba for two months.

In the fall, Mike will return to Columbia P&S as a member of the Class of 2017. He intends to pursue a joint MD/MPH degree, and aspires to focus his career on investigating and addressing health disparities within the LGBTQ community. He plans to serve as a TA for SMDEP at Columbia this summer.
