Branden Jeudy

What path did you take when you first started college?
When I first started college, I was a biological science major with a pre-med concentration.

What led to your interest in a health profession?
What sparked my interest in the health profession was my desire to improve the quality of life in people.

Who are what inspired you?
My inspiration for the health profession stems from a culmination of my experiences and the people that influenced me. One is my mother, who was diagnosed with a mental illness. When I found out about her diagnosis, I was intrigued to learn more about her illness and how I can best help her cope with it. Along with my mother are the internships that I have been honored to experience which further my passion for perusing a career in medicine.

What obstacles did you overcome in your educational or career journey?
The obstacles I overcame were primarily in my early years of college. As I was making the transition from high school to university, it was difficult finding methods of studying that would make me successful in my classes. However, through trial, error, and perseverance I was able to find a way to be more effective and efficient in my studies as a student. As a tutor at my university, I share my experiences and potential obstacles students may face, because I am an example of hard work and grit.

What are some of your recent milestones?
Some of my recent milestones are that I was I became vice president of a medical organization at my university. I also made the dean’s list for the summer period of 2022.

What makes your story unique?
My story is unique due to my background being of Haitian descent. My parents who are from the island of Haiti worked tirelessly to provide me with an opportunity in higher education. With that opportunity, I was able to thrive and work towards a career in medicine. My parents would not allow me to use my background as an excuse to be the best that I can be.

How did SHPEP influence you?
SHPEP was one of the greatest experiences in my life and has truly shaped my outlook on health holistically. SHPEP helped me see what it means to improve one’s quality of life. Helping individuals in their communities by caring for them in the clinical setting is what shaped my mind to make a greater impact in people’s lives by caring for them in all aspects of life. Although there are many fields and specialties in the healthcare field, the common goal for all is the see individuals live a qualitative life. SHPEP has also helped me prepare to become the best health care professional that I aspire to be.
